Emergency Information
First- our thanks to the many emergency responders who
worked so hard in the recent floods & who are there
everyday for us !!!!
Reaching local responders as quickly as possible :
if you are calling for emergency help and you call 911 from a
land line, it will come in to Abington's call center ( as of
10-09 it still does, anyway) Here it is likely to be
handled quickly and by responders who get the call directly &
know the streets and the area. If you call from a cell
phone it will go to the county call center in Eagleville.
While this is an excellent call center and they do a
fantastic job, in a major storm they get calls from all over the
county and these calls can get stacked up . The
township announced a number in August 09 ( or Sept) that
you can put into your cell phone which if you call will
come directly into Abington - 215-884-2700.
9-09 The county wants to
do away with local services like the call center that Abington
has, largely believed to be for budget reasons. Chief
Kelly is asking them to take more time in making such an
important decision. Stay tuned .
