Here are the facts we
THINK we know - though we invite correction if we have
misunderstood and the questions we have thus far that need
answers ........
We would really like to see the Township use
Channel 43 and the website to get this information out to the
public.
We have sent this list to Ed Micciolo and would love to see the
answers published on the township website - but we will publish
them on the Abington Citizens website as well.
Residents
will choose between 64 gallon & 96 gallon trash receptacles with
lids . If they choose the 96 gallons - they will pay as though
they are throwing out 96 gals even if it is only half full most
of the time. We heve learned there is apparently also a 32 gallon
can .
Where do we get the containers?
Is there a cost for them?
Are they leased or bought - if leased from where?
What if they are lost or stolen?

When residents have overflow, there are several scenarios being
considered.
- One is that blue bags will be passed out for overflow - a certain # of
bags per household
- One might be that residents would hold on to the trash until a
certain "overflow pick up day
- One might be that residents would have to make special arrangements to
have the "overflow" picked up.
- Other options?

What is the cost of the information dissemmination ( town
meetings etc) ?
What was the non-recoupable cost of the pilot program?
How much money do you expect from grants in total?
How much money do you expect to get in benefits from increased
recycling?
How much money do you expect to save in tonage per year?
How much money do you expect to save in personnel?
If the new trucks take longer to run the same route, how much
money will that add to cost?

Our old trucks are used for snow removal too . Will the
new trucks also do this?

Currently, many of our cans do not have lids & we pay for the
water they pick up from rain
Currently many people do not recycle as diligently as they
should.
Could a recycling awareness or "policing" program be instituted?
Can a policy be put into place requiring lids to solve some of
the problem?
What are the other problems with our current system?
Didn't we have an "award winning" recycling program?

system?
If it is a written survey, will the results be available for
others to see the comments?
What wards do you currently have the system operational in?
What wards are you planning to have operational before a
decision is made?
When will a final decision be made?
If all wards will not get to try the system, how will residents
know how to advise their Commissioners?

Update
2-28-07 The above were questions we started asking in early 06.
Here in Feb 07 we are still asking most of these same questions.
Apparently the new system was "passed" circa Nov '06 even
thought the supposed pilot programs still allow everyone to
throw out as much as they would like , so it is NOT a pilot
program.
