In the Times Chronicle several letters to the Editor alerted
residents that a large sign with a digital banner to present
messages to the travelers on York Rd had been
installed at Noble Plaza and was promoting an anti-union
message.
Neither the message - nor the variance two
hour sign laws seems to me to be a good thing. First of all
residents have worked hard in this Township to create sign
ordinances in order to give our Township the flavor that
residents together have had the opportunity (or should have had
the opportunity) to have some say about. The concern comes
about when we see individuals getting exceptions that are
unnecessary, and do not seem to reflect any hardship.
In other zoning issues residents have had the
same concerns. We wonder who is safeguarding our
rights, so that others are not taking advantage of them .
First and foremost of course is that not none of this should
take place without our full knowledge and approval. But
additionally, I think most residents feel that the zoning board
is standing up for their rights and upholding their laws and
that these laws will not be changed the minute that they are not
looking .
A group of residents chose to protest this
sign, and some residents suggested boycotting the stores in
Noble Plaza because of this sign. Without those residents having
taken their own time to do this, and other residents who took
the time to write about it in the paper, many of us would never
have known. It would seem a worthwhile endeavor for all of us to
encourage our zoning board to give no exceptions to policies
without full notification to the community . These exceptions
change the nature of our Township.
